Overview
The PIE 422Plus is a 2-in-1 diagnostic milliamp and laboratory thermocouple calibrator. The milliamp side sources and reads 0.000 to 24.000 mA, simulates two-wire transmitters, powers and measures with an internal 24 V supply, includes a 250 Ω HART resistor, and offers patented Ground Leak Detection.
Thermocouple accuracy is ±(0.008% of reading + 0.006 mV) with ±0.05 °C cold-junction compensation. Source and read types J, K, T, E, R, S, B, N, G, C, D, L (J-DIN), U (T-DIN), P (Platinel II), and −13.000 to 80.000 mV. When certified by an accredited laboratory, it is capable of meeting AMS 2750 Field Test Instrument requirements.
Palm-sized with rubber boot and backlit display; automatic stepping from 2 to 21 steps. Made in the USA with NIST-traceable calibration.
Features (PIE)
- Two calibrators in one: all the functions of a 14-type thermocouple calibrator plus a milliamp calibrator. Source and read 0.000 to 24.000 mA, or simulate a 2-wire transmitter.
- Stand-alone transmitter calibration: supply the thermocouple input, power the transmitter with 24 V and read its mA output at the same time. A built-in 250 Ω resistor simplifies HART communicator hookups.
- Loop diagnostics: patented ground-fault and current-leak detection (US Patent 7,248,058).
- Thermocouple types: J, K, T, E, R, S, B, N, G, C, D, L (J-DIN), U (T-DIN) and P (Platinel II), plus −13.000 to +80.000 mV. A secondary display shows the millivolt value for the reading.
- Cold junction: internal thermistor accurate to ±0.05 °C, traceable to NIST, bonded to an isothermal mass with brass screw terminals and a miniature T/C connector.
- Heat treating: PIE states the 422Plus can meet the requirements of an AMS 2750 field test instrument when certified by an accredited laboratory.
- Automatic stepping: 2, 3, 5, 11 or 21 steps (100% down to 5% of span), with step times from 5 to 60 seconds.
