What a pressure gauge does

A pressure gauge gives you a local reading of pressure at the point of measurement. Digital gauges use a sensor and display so you can read resolution clearly, switch units, and (on many models) log data or send an output — useful for leak checks, calibration work, and process checks where an analog dial is hard to resolve.

Gauge, absolute, and differential

• **Gauge pressure** is referenced to atmosphere (most process readings).
• **Absolute pressure** is referenced to vacuum (includes atmospheric effects).
• **Differential pressure** compares two ports (filters, flow elements, DP tests).

Match the sensor type and range to the job; do not rely on a gauge past its rated pressure.

Choosing a digital gauge

• **Range and accuracy** — pick a range that covers the work with margin; tighter accuracy costs more and may need a piston/deadweight reference for cal.
• **Output / logging** — needed when you record as-found/as-left data or feed a recorder.
• **Environment** — intrinsically safe, weather sealing, and media compatibility when the process demands it.
• **Process connection** — NPT, sanitary, or quick-test adapters so the gauge connects cleanly to the UUT or process.
